Men's Representative's November report Welcome back to returning snowbirds. We should have a great 2012-2013 season. I want to thank you for your continued co-operation with monitors at our drop-in sessions. This helps make SCG tennis more enjoyable for all of us. Remember CAM requires us to show our CAM card ID when signing in for club-sponsored events. There are four items I want to mention in this month’s report.
Fifty men attended our first annual men’s welcome back pizza party. Pizza, soft drinks and a keg of beer set the tone for a relaxed chance to talk. The party started a little before noon and gradually came to close at about 2 pm. We have reserved a pizza date for 2013 in the pavilion. Look for the notices and sign up sheets in the spring. T-Th Drop-in On October 9, we resumed double sessions at Chaparral. PLEASE USE THE UNIVERSAL SIGN IN SHEETS SO WE HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF COURT USE AND PARTICIPATION Please use the sign in sheets so we can collect participation numbers. Our leverage with CAM depends in part on the amount of use we document for tennis courts. As of November 9, 2012 typically about 16 men participated in the 2.5 - 3.0 sessions. The 3.5 level drop in sessions had about 20-28 men per session. Players draw for starting court assignments. We ensure everyone plays by working in players who draw a number beyond an even set of foursomes. The first person in a foursome provides tennis balls. The Monitor automatically is number ‘2’ for the group and does not need to draw for a court assignment. Copies of sign up sheets for the drop-in sessions should be available at the courthouse. Contact either Ron Wagner (623-466-8735) or me if there are problems with the supply. Men’s League Play If you are interested in men’s league play contact the captain of the relevant team. The West Valley men’s leagues typically start in December or January and finish in March. The 3.0 men’s league team will need players for the 2012-2013 season. Last years captains can tell you more about participation. The 3.0 men’s league team captains from last year are Tom Burke (546-7616) & Gary Browning (623-556-1731) GTC#2 and Ric Jaeger (266-2643) GTC#1. The 3.5 men’s league team captain is Rick Merring (623-977-7887). Thank you for your support this year. Have a great Thanksgiving. Please check the Grand Slam, the emails, and our bulletin boards at Cimarron and Chaparral for news. See you on the courts, revised November 13, 2012 WVV |
